Last Thing!!!!

Some of my favorite things about 23 things were learning about flicker. I love that you can take your own pictures and do so many things with them and it was very fun to play with. I also loved animoto. I had so many pictures that I wanted to use but had to narrow it down. I know I will be using that again. I really enjoyed learning about a lot of the programs and I know they will be helpful in the future. My life long learning goals have been affected through learning about the different things I can do with technology. I learned that I do not have to be limited when it comes to using it in and with the classroom. I loved learning about it all, but it was a little bit time consuming. But, it is a graduate class and I know that means more work and less sleep:pI do think that everything I learned in this class will help me to keep up to date on technology and continue to search for new ways to use technology in the classroom. I think I can continue learning about web 2.0 by subscribing to other educators blogs that might know a lot about web 2.0 and also through feeds. Over all, this was a great learning experience.

Thing # 23

Creative commons is a great thing. We can use materials that others have created and share what we have created without breaking any laws. You can also change work that was created by another person and make it work for what you need. This helps teachers out because they are now able to feel better knowing they did not steal another persons work.

Thing #22

I found it was easy to use itunes to find a podcast. They have many different choices to choose from. The podcast I chose was called Children's Laureate Presents. She presented a poem called Laughing Time. I could use this kind of podcast to help students get more interested in reading and poems. I actually want to go get the book she was reading from because it was a cute and fun poem. Maybe one day I can make my own podcast using books that the students might like. I think I would listen to this podcast again because i can see what other good poems might interest young learners.

thing #21

I think this has to be my favorite thing we have done so far. I have so many pictures that i can use to make a album with and it was fun making this one. There are so many options and I loved that you can also include music on it. The part that took the longest was uploading the pictures but i think my computer was being slow too. I think I am going to have to go make another album.

Thing #20

I like youtube. I have used it many times before and it is a very fun site to use. There are so many things you can find and so many uses for it. I have an uncle who uses it to upload video clips from trips they take around the country.
The video I chose was on that I saw a while back and is very special. I just thought the parents of this baby were so strong and amazing and I thought it was interesting to share.

Thing #19

I am actually a member of goodreads. I really like this community because
the send out updates on books that my friends have read and also suggestions
and comments about different books out there. I was looking through the different
sites posted on this thing and i think i like what on your book shelf. i think it
is neat that you can trade books with others. i also liked film crave and bake
space. These are fun sites you can go and get updates on new movies or get recipes
and even post recipes. I found it interest that through ning I can create my own
social network and i could use it to have discussions with students that is related
to school work.

Thing #18

I think it is important for educators to know about social networking because it is a good way to sty up to date on things in the classroom and also allows them to communicate with others like parents, students, and other teachers. I personally have both a myspace and a facebook, and have had them for a long time. When I lived overseas it was very useful. I was able to keep in touch with a lot of my friends and with family also. I even had the chance to reconnect with friends from high school. I do not use them much for blogging though. It is more for keeping in touch with people I know. I like both sites and dont think I have much to complain about. I do think it would be useful as a teacher because it is a good tool to have a classroom community that students can use to discuss school related things. Students can do projects and post them and also post music and videos.

Thing#17 in progress...

I think tags are a great tool. By using the tags I an become more organized when it comes to using the internet. I usually use my computers bookmark and like the tutorial said it becomes messy. With tagging, I can give the page a name and then use delicious to keep up with them. I can use this in the classroom and with other teachers to share information and learn information that other might have to give. What a great tool!

Thing #16

The one I chose was igoogle. It was very easy to create and since I already have a gmail account it was really easy to make an account. I was able to add the to do list which is a very useful tool. I have been so busy with work, school, and planning a wedding that it is easy to forget things. The to do list allows me to keep a list of things I have to do at any time period without forgetting I have to do them. I also used the calendar to help me remember important dates. The calendar also allows you to email important dates to other. Very useful! I do think these tools are very useful for the classroom. It will help students and teachers become more organized and also help open communication with students parents and teachers.

Thing #15

I really liked the booklovers Wiki. I think that is a very useful wiki that talks about many different kinds of books. I thought it was nice that there were descriptions for all the books that were posted. I actually want to go get some of them and read them when ever I can find the time. I also enjoyed reading the English 10 wiki. A lot of tips are offered for the teacher and it had activities and way you can facilitate them in the classroom. I think wikis are very useful, because you are able to do so much with them. I ended up using wetpaint to create a wiki page. I tried to emmbed it but for some reason it did not work.

Thing #14

The two programs I chose were Gliffy and Bubbl.us. I really like gliffy because it had many different tools you could use to create stuff. I really liked the floor plan because it allows you to create a space the way you want it to look. That is especially helpful right now for me because I am moving soon and am trying to utilize the new space i will be moving to. This helps me to have a better visual in my head. I chose bubbl.us because it seemed very easy to follow. you are able to create a mind map by using the computer. I remember the times when i had to create on on paper. It is a little more interesting doing it on the computer and much neater. I think both of these tools are very useful for th eclassroom.

Thing #13

I think Zoho write is an amazing tool. If I would have known there was a program like that on the internet then I could have saved some money not buying the software I have now. I think there are many great features in zoho like zoho show. I think that would be very useful in the classroom. You can have students create their own presentations and present them to the class. There is also an organizer that teachers and students can use to keep up with important dates and homework assignments. Zoho has so many more applications that can be useful and I think they can all be used to help facilitate learning and incorporate technology in the classroom.

Thing #12

http://translate.google.com/translate_t?hl=en#
http://www.google.com/calendar/render?hl=en&pli=1

The two cool web tools that I chose were google calendar and google translator. I picked the calendar because it is very convenient to put important dates that I need to remember and also a way to let other people know about dates that are important and dates they should know about like my birthday! I think this tool would be useful in education because student can use the calendar to remember important dates like test dates or field trip days. It would get them more involved in being organized. The other tool I chose was google translator. It is very useful when you are looking at websites that are in other languages. This tool translates websites that are in other languages. This tool can be very useful in the classroom. You could use it to look at educational websites that might be in another language. It would allow students to widen their view of the world by seeing the world through the eyes of others.

Thing #11

I used the search tools to find the readers I wanted. This process was not so hard to do and was interesting to do. I found that the easiest blog search was google blog search. I added the forcedo tool that allows you to keep make a to-do list which is important to me because if I don't have things written down, they would never get done. I also added hulu which allows you to watch your favorite tv shows and it also has movies that you can watch for free! The other one I thought was pretty easy to navigate was Topix.net. I liked this tool because it deals with local news. I am addicted to the news so anything that has to do with the news excites me. The ones I found difficult was feedster, mostly because it would not open on my computer. I also found syndica8 a little difficult to navigate. I did find some useful blogs like news feeds that will keep me up to date on what is going on in Clarksville and around the world. I also found a variety of entertainment blogs that are fun to read. When I was looking through the google search, I found some interesting blog tools. One that I thought was cute was the yawn log. I found that unusual and fun. I wonder how many time I yawn a day?

Thing #10

This is the first time I have heard of RSS feed. The things I really liked about the RSS feeders is that everything comes straight to you and you don't have to search for anything. I didn't know which one I liked best so I subscribed to both the google reader and bloglines. I had a lot of fun looking for different things to follow. I think I may have gotten carried away.

I can use this in my personal life to keep up to date with the news and maybe some star gossip. I also like the fact that there are so many options to choose from. I can use it in the classroom to learn new vocabulary. I am following dictionary.com's Word of the Day feed which could be used in the classroom with students.

Teachers could use feeds to keep in touch with what other teachers are doing around the country. You would be able to follow blogs posted by other teachers and post your own blog that other teachers could follow.

Thing #9

I thought the image generators were very fun to play with. There were so many to choose from. I chose the soccer jersey image and the flag image generators. I used to play soccer when I was in school and the past summer I had the chance to travel to Scotland.

The process for creating my generators was very easy. I chose the ones I liked, and then I played with what I wanted them to say. After that, it was really easy to post them. There was a tab that said post to blog and blogger was listed. I clicked blogger and it posted them automatically to my blog.

I think they could be very useful in the class room. One use could be to allow students to show what hobbies they might have or teams they are a part of and the flag generator could be used to show what countries they have or wish to travel to. It could also be used as a way to talk about different cultures around the world.

My creation">

My creation

I had a lot of fun playing with the different tools flickr offered. I used the FX! tool on the first picture. I choose to make it look like a painting and I used the screen saver ap which made my picture into a calender. There are so many ways to use this in the classroom and in my personal life. In the classroom, it can be used to let students use their creativity with applications that allow them to make magazine covers, find out times the sun sets and rises, map places they have travelled to, and many more. I do plan to use this in the future for myself and in my class.

Thing #7

DSC01411

The pictures that I posted through Flickr are from places that I have traveled to.

The first picture was taken in Japan. A friend and I had the chance to take a vacation there. It was amazing and larger than life. Unfortunately, the day we were leaving, there was a typhoon! We were stuck in Narita airport for 24+ hours! Welcome to Japan!

The next two pictures are from Korea.
The area I was in is know as the art district. They were doing a tribute to Andy Warhol. In the second picture, they used pigs because it was the year of the Golden Pig(very lucky). In the third picture, they used the Korean traditional dress. It was very beautiful to see and there was so much more there to see.

I do think I will use flikr more often. I have used shutterfly in the past, but I like flikr a little more. I would use it personally and hopefully one day I can use it in a classroom.

Thing #6

Mangolanguages.com it a site for language learners. The site has many languages you could learn like Spanish, Japanese, Portuguese, and many more. It has a listen and follow set up that is easy to follow. There is also a detailed explanation that follows what you are studying. I think it could be used in a foreign language class. It could be used as a review on what students learn in class or as a study guide at home. Students could access it in a listening lab as an extra assignment out of class.

Thing #5

The articles I chose were Web 2.0 A Guide for Educators and New Literacy's: Enrichment or Essential.  The first article I read basically talked about Web 2.0 and how our lives are influenced by the web.  There are so many ways to be involved with the web today like blogging and networking.  The article also talks about how students are influence by the web today and how it is a part of their everyday lives.  The web can be used to improve their learning.  In the second article I read, it discussed whether certain aspects of the web were for enrichment or if they were essential.  The author talked about three different ways to use the web and allowed the reader to distinguish whether they were for enrichment or if they were essential.

I never really thought about what school 2.0 or web 2.0 meant to me or to future students until now.  I think it is really amazing how school 2.0 can be used.  I do believe that it is needed in our school system to help develop a better education.   Most jobs today, and more than likely in the future,  will need use of the web.   Students need to be prepared for it and the best way to prepare them is through school.

I think it may change things for students by getting them more involved.  They will have more opportunities to learn about the world around them.  It might even allow them to use the web to be more creative.

Thing #4

Commenting is a very important aspect of blogging. Bloggers are able to interact with each other and share ideas, views, and many other things through the internet. The things I found important when it comes to blogging is to make sure you read before you write. It save you from being embarrassed if you were to comment on something you misunderstood. I also think that using emoticons gives people a visual idea of how you feel :) The two blogs I commented on were:
Thelife.com-There was an article about Susan Boyle, a contestant on BGT, who challenged how we look at people and judge them.
Feministe.com-in this blog there was an article about 300 Afgan women who, by law, are forced to do WHATEVER their husband tell them to do. They protested even though they were outnumbered by 700+ men shouting, cussing, and throwing rocks at them.
The five other blogs that I follow are BeckyBrockman'snifty23things- I like to read her posts.
Mind of a Tennessee Math Teacher-everything she write about is straight foward and interesting
tdezellem- I like how she used her poems in some of her blogs. They were really nice. Amelia Bedelia Crotzer Becomes a Teacher-I like what seh writes
Rogers' Science Spot-I liked her post using the online generators.
I commented on these blogs because I like them and found some interesting ideas that i can use later.

Thing #3

There are many ways blogs can be used in the classroom.  I actually never thought about using them in that way.  Using a blog to keep in touch with parents is a very good way to use it.  It beats playing phone tag.  I really like the idea on edublog about using it as a way to communicate with another class somewhere else in the world.  This would allow students to see how other cultures may be the same or different in many aspects.  Another idea I really liked was making an online book club.  It could encourage discussion about books and get students more excited about reading different types of literature.

Thing #2

I decided to use my last name as my posting name name.  It was the first thing I thought of when naming it.  I named my blog myblog because every name I put in was taken!  I haven't blogged in a long time so it took some getting used to when I was creating this one.  It was not so bad once I started to figure everything out.  I had fun creating my avatar.  I guess you could say it may resemble me in some ways and might look better in others:)  I chose to put her in Egypt because I would like to go there one day.  I have always wanted to see the pyramids!

Thing #1

I think the easiest lifelong learning habits are habit 1:  I like to set goals when I am trying to accomplish things,  Habit 6 because I am on the computer a lot and I want to learn more ways to include it in my future classroom, and Habit 7 1/2. I love to play.  I think the hardest habits are 5 and 6.  I do not know where to start with these habits, but I am learning more about it now and I am getting some ideas.

With web 2.0 I would like to find resources that will help me now and in the future.  I did not know much about web 2.0, so it is very interesting to find all of the resources that are available.

I found it fairly easy setting up my blog.  I did find it hard to make my own url address.  I wanted to be more creative, but it did not work out that way.
